This past Sunday, singer Selena Gomez got really emotional while singing her new single, "The Heart Wants What It Wants" at the 2014 American Music Awards at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre. According to US Magazine, Gomez took to the stage in a Giorgio Armani nude gown, her hair styled in long waves that showed off her painful facial expressions.

Before she started singing, a pre-recorded phone conversation played in the background, with Gomez stating, "When I was on stage and I was thinking of... I know him though, and I know that I know his heart, and I know what he wouldn't do to hurt me," suggesting that the song may be focused around Justin Bieber. The two young stars are always on-again, off-again these days, which could explain Gomez' tearful performance.

Gomez began to cry while softly singing lyrics like, "Hand over heart, I'm praying, that I'm gonna make it out alive," accompanied by visuals in the background such as a giant moon, a lightning storm, a crying woman, and wings. US Magazine reports that the most telling visual of all was a shadow of a man resting his palms against a clouded glass panel. It was inferred that this shadow represented the main subject of the song: Bieber himself.

However, Gomez hasn't admitted that the shadowed figure represents Bieber yet. She revealed that Justin liked her song, but was jealous of its subject. She stated, "He thought it was beautiful. I think it was really hard. I think he was a little jealous of the video guy at first... Honestly, music is an expression, and if you will be that voice for these girls, there are some people that feel this. This is universal."

Meanwhile, Hollywood Life reports that Justin is doing his best to win Selena back. A source close to Justin revealed, "Justin is all about Selena right now, she is the only thing on his mind... He's not worried about his career because Selena is the only thing he can think about. He's trying to change. He's not seeing any other girls, he's not partying." Hopefully Gomez' emotional performance got through to him!
