"Pinocchio" reached first place in the ratings this week. It's a hit but the odds were in its favor. Even if the show did not have an interesting premise based on an imaginary syndrome, its stars are so well loved that it quickly attracted a loyal following.

It's a drama about a woman, played by Park Shin Hye, who cannot tell a lie due to the imaginary condition known as "Pinocchio syndrome." Well, she can actually tell a lie, but not without everyone knowing. When she lies she starts to hiccup.

She becomes a reporter like her mother, raising some interesting questions about the nature of truth in journalism. The man she loves, played by Lee Jong Suk, is a rival reporter. She doesn't know it but her reporter mother helped ruin his family.
