LG Display Brings Suit against Samsung Electronics for Infringement of Patent

Samsung Display of Samsung Electronics is being sued for patent infringement and may need to pay compensation for whatever damage they have caused.  Samsung representatives stated, "We will take necessary measures lawfully based on the actions of the other party."

According to LG Display, the smartphones created by Samsung Electronics including the Galaxy S Series as well as the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab all violate the patent.

Today (September 27), LG Display held a press conference in Seoul to announce their lawsuit against Samsung Display of Samsung Electronics for violating 7 of its OLED patents.

LG Display seemed to have been aggravated by the request made by Samsung Electronics on the 5th for an injunction against LG Display for attempting to gain confidential information.

During the press conference that was abruptly organized today, LG Display claimed that Samsung Display clearly violated the OLED patents in the creation of 5 devices created by Samsung. LG is demanding a compensation that has not yet been specified for the damages as well as legal appropriate action against the five products from Samsung that violate the OLED patents.

According to the Wall Street Journal, LG Display claims that one of the violations includes the design of LG's OLED panels, driver circuitry and device design.

LG official stated during the press conference, "The company filed a damage suit to protect its indigenous technologies that took an enormous amount of money and people to develop over a long period of time," (Yonhap News Agency).

It is a mystery as to how LG's Optimus G and Optimus View 2 (Sept 28 release date) will do in the market after their lawsuit against Samsung Electronics.

Based on the results of this lawsuit, LG may be the next leading mobile company in South Korea after the complicated fight among the top 3.
