Kangnam

The MIB vocalist surprised everyone, including himself, in 2014 when he became one of the new stars of Korean variety shows. After Kangnam revealed that he only had $3 in his bank account, his positive reaction led to him becoming a viral star over night. Kangnam's frank personality and his foreign attitude endeared himself to Korean viewers, leading to the singer becoming a popular guest on multiple variety shows in the second half of 2014.

Hong Jin Young

A trot singer seems likely an unlikely variety show star, but Hong Jin Young's appearance on We Got Married partnered with Nam Goong Min led to unfound popularity for the singer. Her cute and sexy behavior has resulted in Hong Jin Young also appearing on shows popular with international fans, such as Running Man and Roommate.

Lee Guk Joo

The gagwoman seems like an unlikely fan favorite, but Lee Guk Joo may be the most popular star of 2014. Her refreshing attitude and her ideas of body image on Roommate contrasts so heavily that of the idols who surround her that Lee Guk Joo stands out even more so. She became a model for W Korea and showed off a positive image towards larger woman, which is often lacking from the Korean entertainment industry.

Jackson & Youngji

Got7's Jackson and Kara's newest member Youngji really go hand in hand thanks to their role in Roommate. Acting as foils to one another, the two idols both are new to the Korean entertainment industry and working constantly with professionals who have already had full careers. Their revitalizing outlook on the industry, and their earnestness when it comes to wanting to succeed despite numerous hardships, has made Youngji and Jackson fan favorites.
