'Newsroom' Finale Airs After Three Seasons Of Mixed Reviews: HBO's Aaron Sorkin Journalism Show Ties Up Loose Ends; Is Met With Both Positive And Negative Criticisms [PHOTO]

Aaron Sorkin's HBO series "The Newsroom" came to a close this past Sunday night after three seasons of mixed reviews and ratings. According to the Huffington Post, the finale rendered similarly mixed feelings, with some viewers writing it off as much too tame.

Entertainment Weekly wrote of the finale: "In actuality, 'The Newsroom' ended last week: Charlie Skinner died, Will McAvoy got out of jail, Jim and Maggie got together - and Aaron Sorkin permanently alienated whatever audience he had left by featuring a controversial college-campus-rape story line."

That aside, there were some highlights of the finale. Major spoiler alert!

Firstly, Will and Mackenzie are having a baby. Mackenzie finds out she is pregnant at Charlie's funeral, and the news encourages Will to give up smoking and buy a house outside of the city.

Second, Jim confesses that he is in love with Maggie. When Maggie tells him she is taking a field producer job in DC, Will confesses his feelings and proposes trying a long-distance relationship.

Third, and finally, it seems the show will go on. The Huffington Post reports that the show ends with Will sitting behind the news desk saying "Good evening" before the screen fades to black. We will never really know what happens afterwards.

In the past, West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin said of his show, "I feel like I'm just now starting to learn how to write it... I'm very proud of 'The Newsroom.' I have the time of my life working with these people that I work with, but there is a learning curve and unfortunately, those lessons are learned in front of several million people."
