Online mobile photo-sharing and social networking service, Instagram has added five new filters for still images and real-time commenting in the first major update to the app in two years with Mayfair and Willow being the last filters added to the service back in December 2012.

Users will now have access to some other hispter effects, labelled Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua.
 

In a blog post, Instagram said, "They soften and subtly shift colours to achieve the look and feel you want for each photo."

"Photography trends have evolved, and the capabilities of the camera on your phone have vastly improved."

"We've seen tremendous creativity within the community, not only in the moments they share, but in the time spent carefully composing and editing photos and videos to bring out emotions and make them beautiful."

The way that filters are displayed has also been changed. From now on, when you opt to apply a filter to an uploaded image, the filter icon on the bottom will display a blurred preview of each image if the effect were applied letting you see how it will look after applying a specific effect.

Moreover, a new tool now will let you manage the order in which your filters appear so that you don't need to keep scrolling to your favorites and can also hide the ones you don't wish to use. Additionally, you can now see comments appear in real-time. Previously, users had to reload an image to see new feedback. Plus, you can also upload a slow-motion video if you wish.
