NFL's Troy Vincent In The Middle Of Adrian Peterson's Suspension Controversy; Executive Guarantees Mere Two-Game Suspension?

Troy Vincent is getting flak after appearing to have told Adrian Peterson that he will only be suspended for a couple of games.

Sports Illustrated wrote that Vincent, executive vice president for football operations of NFL was contacted by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, to ask about his suspension status.

Previously, Peterson was suspended without pay for the remainder ofthe NFL season. His appeal was denied on December 12 and his reinstatement will only be due on April 15, 2015.

Adrian Peterson was put on the Commissioner's List earlier in the season after he was charged with reckless assault for hitting his four-year-old son with a switch. He was fined $4,000 and ordered 80 hours of community service.

Vincent stated that he talked to the player at his home on November 10, eight days before Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, issued an Adrian Peterson suspension without pay for the final six games of the NFL season until April 15.

Bleacher Report wrote that Peterson shared his future plans that he would love to return to Minnesota but if the team would release him, he will feel good knowing he gave his best.

Vincent said, "I visited Adrian, not from my position or title, but to talk about how he was doing, how his children were, whether he was getting the help he needed. My Christian faith tells me that when I see someone in need and it's within my ability to reach out and lend a helping hand, I should do so. I felt like in speaking to Adrian, I might be able to help him get through this. I needed to touch him and look in his eyes and tell him we can get through this together."

In the phone conversation about Adrian Peterson's suspension, which occurred on November 12, the executive seemed to tell the player that the time already served on the Commissioner's List will be included in his suspension. According to the running back's legal team, the NFL promised that Peterson will only get a two-game suspension.

The recording featured the NFL player first asking if he will be suspended for only two games.

Vincent answered, "Yeah."

Peterson clarified, "It will be two additional games - not time served?"

Vincent answered, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It won't..the one this weekend. So really it's next weekend. You will be back."

Peterson asked again, "So, two games?"

Vincent replied, "Yeah, but you cannot ... you've got to go through the process."

The NFLPA currently filed a case against Adrian Peterson's suspension.
