2NE1 Becomes Only Asian Act To Be Included On Rolling Stone's 20 Best Pop Albums Of 2014

2NE1's record-setting record "Crush" has been named one of the best pop albums of 2014.

Coming in at number six, Rolling Stone listed 2NE1's "Crush" above the likes of Sia, Shakira, Pharrell Williams and Sam Smith. Of the 20 acts on the list, 2NE1 is the only Asian act to be given the honor.

"Female foursome 2NE1, buoyed by a cameo on 'The Bachelor,' moved more units of their album in its first week of release than any previous Korean act," wrote Rolling Stone contributor Charles Aaron.

On Thursday, MTV Iggy's 2014 song of the year was also determined through polling to be 2NE1's "Gotta Be You," one of the singles from "Crush."

After "The Bachelor," 2NE1 also garnered international attention through other opportunities, including making a cameo and performing on the recent "America's Next Top Model" finale.

In addition, 2NE1 iconic single "I Am the Best" was chosen for Microsoft's commercial for the Surface Pro 3. After the commercial was broadcast online and on television, many observers caught on to the K-pop band despite not knowing Korean or K-pop in general.

"Is anyone else obsessed with the song in the Microsoft Surface commercial?" asked Kaitlin Madden on Twitter. "It doesn't even have any words I understand."

"I can't be the only one who loves the music in that Microsoft commercial," tweeted Tom Wassell on October 26.

In the week ending Oct. 19, the anthemic 2NE1 single was reportedly played 24 times on WBMP New York and 14 times on WODS Boston. "I Am the Best" also topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart and reached 100 million views on YouTube.

Recently, "I Am the Best" was re-released by Capitol Records, making many wonder if the group has signed with the label for an international debut next year.
