TVXQ Break Japanese Sales Record! 4 Of Band's Albums Have Topped Oricon Weekly Chart For 4 Weeks Or More

TVXQ set a new chart record for Japan's Oricon weekly singles chart on Tuesday, becoming the first group to top the chart for four weeks straight, with four different albums.

Last Wednesday, TVXQ released their new Japanese album, "With", which debuted atop the Oricon Daily Album Chart and the weekly roundup. "With" has sold 233,000 copies in the first week of its release.

Before that, TVXQ had topped the Oricon weekly pop chart in 2011 with "Tone," in 2013 with "Time" and earlier in 2014 with "Tree."

This is the first time a non-Western artist has beaten the previous record held by American hard rock band Bon Jovi, who had three albums that topped the chart for four weeks each.

“TVXQ’s [hit album] is their fourth in a row," read a statement Tuesday on Oricon's homepage.

"They are the first foreign group to have four albums all top the charts. They have broken the record and have beat the previous record holder, Bon Jovi.”

And the good news for TVXQ from Japan just keeps coming.

On Saturday, Oricon released their 2014 Yearly Artist Total Sales, ranking TVXQ fifth overall. The group was the only non-Japanese act to make the list.
