Japanese Pop Singer Hikaru Utada To Make Theme Song For ‘Evangelion 4.0' As Long As 2015 Release Date Holds

It is a common experience to watch an anime series and overtime become a fan of the song that plays at the end or the beginning of each episode. Additionally, blockbuster films often capitalize on theme songs written and or performed by popular artists.

It's usually a good business decision for both parties unless you end up on a peculiar situation in which a movie never gets released.

This seems to be the case for "Evangelion 4.0," the final movie in the "Evangelion" series and Japanese pop singer Hikaru Utada. Recently a source from her record label revealed that the singer is currently on track to perform another theme song for the "Evangelion" movie, but only if the previously rumored 2015 release date.

In regards to news about Utada Hikaru, fans were excited about her return, but were not easily convinced that "Evangelion 4.0" will make the 2015 cutoff date.

"Meh... while it would fit with the whole 20th anniversary of the series, knowing Anno I'm not going to trust it will be out by then. I'll be surprised if it is though," commented Calculus20 in ANN forum

"I'm torn between wishing for another acoustic epic and a more electronically influenced pop piece...can't she just make TWO theme songs? That being said, I wouldn't consider any of this more than rote speculation until Utada and/or her dad make some kind of announcement," explained Alexis Anagram.

"It would be awesome if all 4 films had her songs in them. A 2015 release would actually be pretty decent....but I think it'll get pushed back," stated Ambimunch.

According to Anime News Network, the source is a representative at Hikaru's label, Universal Japan. The representative also informed the Bunshun Japanese magazine that since Hikaru has one album left in her contract, they would hope to center the album around the song for "Evangelion 4.0."

Although neither director Hideaki Anno nor Studio Khara have confirmed the release date of "Evangelion 4.0" yet, here's hoping this announcement/pressure from Utada Hikaru's group will fast track the project to make a 2015 cut off.

It would certainly make fans happy.
