Watch The Space Battles Between Earth And Mars Continue In New ‘Aldnoah.Zero' Season 2 Trailer [VIDEO]

Journeying to other planets and other worlds returned to popular consciousness this year thanks to Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar." Because there's still an elegant beauty in all the mystery of that which remains uncharted, space will always be interesting to some degree.

For anime fans however, it's not enough to just document space exploration. Now, it's all about space conflict. It has been for a while. For that reason, you might say anime is much more forward thinking than average culture.

This perhaps explains the draw of "Aldnoah.Zero," an anime series that is poised to debut its second season this January. Another trailer for the upcoming season was released this weekend and features a tiny preview of the space battles between Earth and Mars to come.

It's notable that "Aldnoah.Zero" is a series written by famous anime screenwriter, Gen Urobuchi. Additionally, the anime series is also directed by Ei Aoki, whom Urobuchi worked with on popular anime series "Fate/zero."

Earlier this year, Urobuchi talked about what it was like to work with Aoki again for "Aldnoah.Zero."

"Aoki-san is a pleasure to work with on storyboard. With Aoki-san on the team it feels like a sure thing. The vision of these animations will be perfect," Urobuchi told Neko Shiritori.

According to Anime News Network, additional staff for "Aldnoah.Zero" season two include Takako Shimura, who is responsible for character design, I-IV and Kenji Teraoka, who are designing the mecha, and Hiroyuki Sawano, who is scoring the music.

Wikipedia summarizes the plot of "Aldnoah.Zero" as follows:

"In 1972, an ancient alien hypergate was discovered on the surface of the moon. Using this technology, humanity began migrating to Mars and settling there. After settlers discovered additional advanced technology, the Vers Empire was founded, which claimed Mars and its secrets for themselves.

Later, the Vers Empire declared war on Earth, and in 1999, a battle on the Moon's surface caused the hypergate to explode, shattering the Moon and scattering remnants into a debris belt around the planet.

Cut off from Mars, the remnants of the Vers insurgents established several massive orbital space stations within the debris belt and a ceasefire was established. 15 years later, in 2014, an attack on the Vers princess during a peace mission causes the Empire to launch a new attack on Earth, this time determined to conquer it once and for all."

Fans can watch the all new trailer for "Aldnoah.Zero" season two below. The series will be simulcast for fans outside of Japan thanks to Aniplex and will premiere January 10, 2015.
