K-Pop Group 8Eight To Disband, Big Hit Entertainment Issues Statement About Future Plans

Co-ed vocal group 8Eight has announced its disbandment, joining other Korean acts that disbanded in 2014.

The three members of 8Eight will all leave Big Hit Entertainment, but only two members are leaving the agency immediately. According to Classicalite, the contracts of rapper Baek Chan and female vocalist Joo Hee with Big Hit Entertainment expired in 2014 and, on December 21, 8Eight announced that the two would not renew their contracts with the agency.

Male vocalist Lee Hyun's contract expiration date is later than the other members of 8Eight due to spending two years in the military; he will continue under Big Hit Entertainment. Lee Hyun will continue his career as a soloist and as part of the duet Homme alongside 2AM's Changmin. He too will then look for a new agency.

Three of 2AM's members also recently left Big Hit Entertainment and signed formally with 2PM following a partnership between the two companies; Changmin resigned with Big Hit Entertainment due to his solo career and his part in Homme.

Despite formally disbanding, Big Hit Entertainment revealed that the three members of 8Eight might still reunite in the future.

"We no longer have anymore promotions planned for 8Eight. Because their contracts have expired," explained a representative of Big Hit entertainment. "[8Eight's] Activities have been suspended for now. The three members' friendship will still continue, so if the opportunity arises, they will reunite."

During the group's seven year career, 8Eight became one of South Korea's most popular vocal groups and their songs can frequently be heard in coffee shops.

8Eight's latest single, "Let's Not Go Crazy," was released on September 19 and will be the group's last song together under Big Hit Entertainment.
