The holidays may have once been a time of celebrating with family members but it has since become a great time for sleeping and TV marathons.

It looks like Japanese networks are taking advantage of the possibility that some might prefer to stay home this New Year's Eve to watch anime.

More than likely those viewers will be of the Otaku nature.

Today it was announced that two anime series would be marathoned over the New Year's Eve holiday in Japan: "Monogatari" and "Hunter x Hunter." The announcement has resulted in a resurgence of fans longing for an announcement about the indefinite hiatus that "Hunter x Hunter" has been on this year.

At the outset of the announcement on Crunchyroll, fans immediately hoped that the marathon was a sign of a future "Hunter x Hunter" to come.

"See a Hunter X Hunter Picture = Expect Hunter X Hunter to continue," said EmeraldSplashKakyoin.

"At the end, Togashi comes and says: 'Chapter 350 is now released," hoped Viltsu300.

Back in September, according to Anime News Network, "Hunter x Hunter's" hiatus was extended indefinitely due to the author Yoshihiro Togashi's back illness. Since then, fans have lamented in various forums hoping for the manga series to return.

It has also resulted in some fans on Reddit trying to content themselves with how the most recent story arc ended as the official ending.

Japanese fans will however still have a chance to relive the whopping 148 episodes starting today courtesy of Nittle Plus. Crunchyroll reports that Japanese streaming service NicoNico will also be streaming a marathon of "Monogatari" over the New Year's Eve holiday leading up to four new episodes of "Tsukimonogatori."

As fans continue to hope for a continuation of "Hunter x Hunter," perhaps if they have no plans for the holidays they can stream all the episodes as fans in Japan watch them on air.
