Akdong Musician And Lee Hi Cover Big Bang's 'Lies' And 2NE1's 'Lonely'

On December 29, Akdong Musician (AKMU) siblings, Lee Chanhyuk and Suhyun, and soloist Lee Hi were guests on episode 164 of SBS's Healing Camp. The trio paid homage to their senior YG Entertainment label-mates by doing acoustic covers of their songs.

The artists performed sitting down on black chairs with Chanhyuk stationed in the middle. He played his signature guitar as the two main vocalists harmonized. Around them, the set was decorated like a winter wonderland with white trees and giant snowballs.

The first song they covered was Big Bang's first #1 hit single "Lies." The song was released in 2007 as part of the group's mini album Always and soon garnered massive attention and success. The cover by AKMU and Lee Hi was more melancholic than the original pop song. By having the piano melody substituted with a guitar solo, the song suddenly had a more Indie vibe. The trio also slowed down the tempo of the song so that Lee Hi and Suhyun's strong voices could carry emotional high notes in particular portions.

The second song they covered was 2NE1's "Lonely." Since 2NE1 already did an acoustic collaboration with guitarist Jung Sungha for the song, this cover didn't feel as staggeringly different. Lee Hi executed most of the difficult full notes whilst the Lee siblings provided a charming chorus. You can watch the covers below!

This isn't the first time the young YG artists have done covers of their senior label-mates. AKMU had previously performed a very popular rendition of Taeyang's "EYES, NOSE, LIPS," which you can watch below!
