Columbus Short To Go To Court After Bar Punching Scandal; Former Gladiator Faces Felony Battery Charge

Former "Scandal" actor Columbus Short will be tried on a felony battery charge after he reportedly sucker punched a man after a barroom fight on March 15.

According to the Associated Press report, as published by CBS, the court gave credence to the testimony of a witness who testified that Columbus Short punched the victim, Fenton Hyche III, while he wasn't looking.

"Superior Court Commissioner Mark Zuckman ruled Tuesday that prosecutors had shown enough evidence to support the charge, but expressed doubts about the credibility of some of the testimony from the man Short attacked," the report said.

As a result, the victim fractured his eye socket and sustained a concussion. The punching scandal was allegedly the main reason why Columbus Short was fired from "Scandal."

The actor previously released a statement confirming his departure from the Shonda Rhimes series: "At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble in television today."

"Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast..."

However, former "Scandal" actor Columbus Short's attorney, Michael Levin, dismissed the testimony of the witness as he insisted that the actor acted on self-defense. The lawyer said that had the plaintiff's father not restrained his forearms, he would have delivered a blow to the actor.

The plaintiff admitted that he had an argument with Columbus Short but couldn't remember what it was about.

Prior to the trial on the punching scandal, the commissioner at least allowed Columbus Short to make a trip to Louisiana to meet a prior commitment to play a role at the end of December. The actor also previously missed the date of the preliminary hearing for the felony battery charge.
