Funimation Licenses ‘Absolute Duo' Anime While Fans Wonder If Light Novel Adaptation Will Be Simulcast

With only two days left before its Japanese TV premiere, Funimation confirmed today that it just acquired the license for "Absolute Duo" to give to fans in English speaking countries (mainly the U.S.). Unfortunately Funimation has yet to announce if they simulcast the series starting with the January 4 premiere in Japan.

Fans are mostly reacting positively to the announcement of Funimation's License of "Absolute Duo," with some wondering when they can expect to be able to watch episodes.

"Awesome! I'm very much looking forward to this one! Thanks Funi! All exclamation points for some reason!" commented Anzer on Funimation's blog post.

"Funimation will stream or simulcast? There's a big difference between the two," commented Hameyadea in an ANN Forum.

One fan speculated that Funimation will likely implement a delay casting of "Absolute Duo" but there is perhaps still time for Funimation to find a way to simulcast the series.

Anime News Network reports that "Absolute Duo" is based on the light novel series by Takumi Hiiragi-Boshi. The main crew for the anime adaptation includes Atsushi Nakayama, who will direct the anime at the 8-bit animation studio. Character design for the series is by Keiichi Sano and animation is directed by Norie Tanaka.

The main voice cast for the series is as follows: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Thor Kokonoe, Nozomi Yamamoto as Julie Sigtuna, Ayaka Suwa as Tomoe Tachibana, Ayaka Imamura as Miyabi Hotaka, and Haruka Yamazaki as Lilith Bristol

Funimation provides the following synopsis of "Absolute Duo":

"In a world of heroes who wield magical weapons known as Blaze, Thor Kokonoe's manifests instead as a shield.

Things aren't all bad for Thor, though: he's enrolled in an elite school that pairs students up into Duos, and his own partner is the beautiful Julie Sigtuna, a silver-haired exchange student who wields a wicked pair of blades. Along with a bevy of Blazing beauties, Thor's high school adventures are just beginning!"
