WhatsApp News: WhatsApp News: Popular Instant Messaging Service Tallies A Whopping 700 Million Active Users After Being Acquired By Facebook!

WhatsApp continues its insane growth! One of one the world's most popular messaging services is riding high with an unbelivable 700 million active users, up from 600 million in August 2014 even three months after Facebook acquisition. Users are sending 30 billion messages per day, says WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum.

WhatsApp, one of the world's most popular instant messaging app for smartphones that operates under a subscription business model continues to grow despite Facebook acquisition. On February 19, 2014, Facebook announced its acquisition of WhatsApp Inc., for a whopping $19 billion.

As of October 2014, WhatsApp had more than 600 million active users with India alone boasting a user base of more than 70 million, followed by China's WeChat with 468 million active users, Viber with 209 million active users and Japan's LINE with 170 million active users.

WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum wrote in a Facebook post:

"I hope you all had a happy and peaceful holiday season. Today, we're thrilled to share that WhatsApp has more than 700 million monthly active users." Koum added, "Additionally, every day our users now send over 30 billion messages. As humbled and excited as we are by these numbers and our continued growth, we're even more excited to keep building a great product in 2015. Most of all, we're grateful that so many of you are using WhatsApp to stay in touch with your friends and family, business colleagues and classmates. We promise to continue working hard to make WhatsApp even better."

When last checked today, the post had 578 likes and 61 people shared it.

That makes WhatsApp one of the world's largest social networks, even bigger than Twitter's 284 million and its corporate cousin, Instagram, the photo sharing service which had 300 million users last month. However, online social networking website, Facebook is still the biggest with 1.3 billion users signing in each month.

The latest data can certainly help Facebook tamp down fears of investors as far as its acquisition strategy is concerned, despite the $19 billion purchase price, one of the largest deals in Silicon Valley history. A spokesperson for WhatsApp declined to comment on how many are paying customers and if its growth has met Facebook's expectations.

Facebook's Messenger app had 500 million users in November, just trailing behind WhatsApp. Facebook said it plans to cut off chat from its flagship app, compelling users to download and use Messenger for that purpose. According to recent news, WhatsApp will be adding voice calling in 2015, following its February announcement of the feature which did not even materialized in 2014.
