Channing Tatum ‘Gambit’ Movie Release Date Set! ‘X-Men’ Spinoff Slated In Late 2016! Remy LeBeau Introduced In ‘X-Men: Apocalypse?’

The 'Gambit' movie has finally got its release date. The enigmatic X-Men character to be played by Channing Tatum will follow the next mutant movie, "X-Men: Apocalypse." Will Gambit be introduced in the third installment?

Technically, the current X-Men movies comprise a new trilogy that started with the pseudo-reboot "X-Men: First Class." However, Fox reintegrated the characters and storyline from the first trilogy but they decided to create a new timeline.

The only known details for the Gambit movie is that it will star Channing Tatum. Now, Variety confirms its release date:

"Twentieth Century Fox has set Channing Tatum's X-Men spinoff "Gambit" for Oct. 7, 2016.

The Gambit character, who debuted in 1990, is an expert card-thrower and has the power to manipulate kinetic energy.

'Gambit,' written by Joshua Zetumer, will be Fox's eighth X-Men movie. 'X-Men: Apocalypse'  debuts on May 27, 2016."

According to IO9, the story is based on a "Chris Claremont treatment" meaning it will trace the character back from its original creator. There is a big chance that it will feature an origin story with Louisiana's battle between the Guilds of Thieves and Assassins.

The next question was whether Gambit would appear in "X-Men: Apocalypse." It would make sense given the proximity of their release dates. It would also be a great venue to introduce the character to non-comic book fanboys.

However, Channing Tatum has addressed this in a previous interview with MTV

"We've talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the 'hero, superhero movie.' Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He's a thief. He walks on the gray. I'm hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones."

It should be noted that this interview was way before the release date announcement and it is unknown whether the dynamic has changed. While Tatum has his input, Fox still makes the final decisions and introducing the character in the franchise movie seems logical.
