Watch Hideyoshi Try To Unify The Realm In New ‘Samurai Warriors' Anime Trailer [VIDEO], Funimation And Crunchyroll To Stream Video Game Adaptation This January

The Warring States period continues to be one of interest when studying the history of Japan. Add some attractive male drawings and sword fights and you've probably earned the attention of your average gamer and fangirls alike.

This combination of "something for everyone" probably explains the popularity of "Sengoku Musou" or the "Samurai Warriors" franchise. An all new anime adaptation is set to premiere this month, with streaming outside of Japan made possible by Funimation and Crunchyroll. Recently, an all new trailer for the adaptation was released that features Toyotomi Hideyoshi working to unify the realm among continuing brutal war.

At the outset of the announcement that "Samurai Warriors" would be adapted into an anime, fans reacted mostly by comparing it to previous video game adaptations:

"When ‘Sengoku Basara' isn't around anymore, you'll get this," commented Aizen310 on Siliconera.

"Hope its better than the awful anime that came with the game, animation was bad and the fight were lazily done with that freeze frame combat," said Txu Zai

"After that sad SB3 ["Sengoku Basura"] anime we just got I may give this a watch! Can't believe they did that too my show!" exclaimed to TheWon and Only.

Although the new trailer for "Samurai Warriors" is currently without English subtitles, Anime News Network provides an English transcript with the trailer as well as artwork for the characters that was previously released to promote the show.

Speaking of English subtitles, fans outside of Japan will be able to access episodes of the "Samurai Warriors" anime via both Crunchyroll and Funimation. Crunchyroll will specifically begin their broadcast of "Samurai Warriors" starting January 11.

Crunchyroll provides the following description of "Samurai Warriors":

"Samurai Warriors focuses on the Sanada brothers during the Sengoku era of Japan. In late 16th century, the era of civil war that tore Japan over two centuries is nearing its end and the regional warlords who survived the bloodsheds are ready for a final showdown. In the battlefield where your best ally turns out to be your worst enemy, only the shrewdest can come out alive."
