‘Suicide Squad’ Movie Cast Rumors: Viola Davis Confirmed As Amanda Waller? ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Star Reportedly Becomes Dungeon Master For Anti-Hero Team!

The "Suicide Squad" movie has allegedly cast their Amanda Waller with "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis. The scoop has finally been confirmed.

The first rumors of Davis' casting was reported by Latino Review:  "According to sources, the lovely Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) has bagged the role of major DC Comics villain and Prison Warden Amanda Waller in David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad. In the comics, Amanda Waller is a former congressional aide and government agent often placed in charge of the Suicide Squad, a semi-secret government-run group of former supervillains working in return for amnesty."

There were some other sites that disputed this when it first came out like the AMC Movie Talk podcast. However, Nerd Report has all but confirmed the rumor. There was no clear declaration but it can be inference in the statement:

"I have not started reading [the comic book source material] yet. I've read up about her but I'm working out my schedule for Suicide Squad... I'm fascinated by her. I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She's this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I'm excited to pick up a gun."

"You know, I've done action before but I guess a lot of those scenes were cut in movies. Yeah, [Blackhat] was good research because I certainly had to do a lot of it."

The actual term that Davis used was that she's "working it out" and Warner Bros. have yet to make an official statement. It is a very integral role and even Oprah Winfrey was attached to it at some point. This could still change but in the past, rumors that have reached this point have eventually been confirmed by Warner despite prior denials. Jason Momoa, Jared Leto and Will Smith are some examples.
