Ebony Magazine Discovers K-Hip Hop Through 'YGGR' Performance At MAMA 2014

Cory Townes, the Social Media Manager, for Ebony.com recently discovered the epic peformance from illionaire records’ Dok2 and the Quiett which featured iKON’s Bobby for the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

In an article called “Southern Rap Has Found a Home in Asia,” the writer goes on to illustrate his wonder at the talented rappers and their performance of “YGGR” which helped to kick off MAMA 2014 on December 3.

Cory Townes then goes on to ponder if they are the Korean version of the Atlanta hip-hop trio, Migos. He states, “This leads me to wonder, what if there’s some alternate universe on the other side of the world that has their own versions of Korean superstars.”

“YGGR” was one of the most well-received Korean hip-hop tracks of 2014 with the MAMA performance serving as a tie-in to the Mnet reality program Show Me The Money 3. Bobby was the champion of the reality competition program, and has since demonstrated his rap prowess through his collaboration with Korean hip-hop group Epik High on their latest comeback single “Born Hater.”

American media outlets have increased their focus on Korean artists in recent months, with many outlets zeroing in on the highly anticipated U.S. debut of 2NE1 rapper CL.
