‘Puzzle & Dragons' Gets ‘Super Mario 3DS' Crossover But Some U.S. Fans Are Skeptical About International Export

Game crossovers have admittedly not always worked the way developers want them too. Sometimes the result is a game that fails to create a cohesive symmetry between elements from each respective game.

Here's hoping however that in the case of "Puzzle & Dragons" and "Super Mario 3DS," developers are able to get the symmetry right.

Today it was announced via the Puzzle and Dragons twitter that the "Super Mario 3DS" crossover version of the game is currently being produced for an international release. The game is currently confirmed for release on the 3DS platform in Japan on April 29th.

Fans in the US have reacted to the news with skepticism that the "Puzzle & Dragons" crossover with Mario will ever make it stateside.

"The fact that this game has still not seen a Western release on the 3DS says a lot about how Nintendo views games they consider to be competition," commented Chambertlo on Kotaku.

"Most likely NoE [Nintendo of Europe] will release it while those of us in North America will have to spend 5 years petitioning to get an act of Congress passed to persuade NoA [Nintendo of America] to release it. NoA will then do a limited release via Gamestop that will only go to scalpers and cost triple the retail price on eBay or after Gamestop gets surprise ‘used' shipments," explained YSoSidious.

Indeed, there is a definite possibility that it may take a while before fans outside of Japan will see the game. Considering the popularity of anything with Mario in it however, it would be in Nintendo and GungHo Online Entertainment's best interest to make it happen.

For gamers in Japan however, it's just a matter of waiting for the April release date. According to Kotaku, the "Super Mario" "Puzzle & Dragons" crossover will follow Mario on a quest to save Princess Peach, who Bowser has kidnapped once again. Mysterious drops are the new weapon of choice for Bowser and the gamer as Mario will have to solve the puzzles to save Peach of course.

For those who don't often play mobile games, "Puzzle & Dragons" (via Google Play) is a free mobile game where players match 3 or more orbs of the same color to attack enemies. The ultimate goal is to collect the dungeons loot or score a rare monster.
