Michael Sam Engaged To Boyfriend Vito Cammisano, Former Dallas Cowboys Defensive End Officially Off The Market [PHOTO]

Michael Sam is officially off the market! The former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman is now engaged to his boyfriend and college sweetheart, Vito Cammisano. According to US Magazine, Sam is known for being the first openly gay NFL player in history after coming out as gay in February 2014.

In terms of his football career, Sam was first drafted by the St. Louis Rams in August, but was later released. He then joined the Dallas Cowboys, but was again cut in October.

As for his romantic life, Sam and Cammisano met at the University of Missouri, where they were both athletes. According to The Daily Mail, Sam first met Cammisano, who was a star swimmer, during a college party. Cammisano was vomiting at the time, and Sam approached him.

Sam stated, "I went up to him to ask if he was OK, and he started cursing at me, screaming, 'F--- off - do you know who I am?' I told him I didn't care who he was. We didn't speak again for two years."

When Cammisano came out to his swim team as gay in 2011, he and Sam started dating. The duo made international headlines when Sam was told he had been drafted by the St. Louis Rams live on ESPN. Sam kissed Cammisano in celebration, and the rest is history.

Coming out to the world wasn't easy for Sam, but Cammisano helped to encourage him along the way. Sam stated, "Vito was really the person who showed me I had to do it. I wanted us to be comfortable."

CBS Sports reports that Sam and Cammisano have been traveling together in Europe since December 30, and that it appears the question was popped in Rome sometime around Sam's 25th birthday, which was on January 7.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
