SM Entertainment recently revealed the first holographic musical to the public.

The SMTOWN@coexartium had its grand opening on January 13th. President Lee Soo Man as well as other famous artists were in attendance for the event, where the holographic theatre was unveiled after the opening ribbon cutting ceremony.

The holographic musical "School of Oz" will be shown on the 14th, a bit ahead of its original premiere date. An abbreviated but jam-packed version of the musical was shown on the grand opening night. With 3D dragons and magic depicted through state of the art holographic technology, the abbreviated version showed a quality that even live musicals could not follow.

The SMTOWN@coexartium's fifth and sixth floor consists of the virtual reality theatre, touch based internet, and beacon technology that incorporates ICT into the venue's functionality. These assets make the atrium quite the venue to visit. The theatre comes equipped with three IMAX screens that fully capture the experience of a concert, allowing for the virtual setting to provide real life entertainment for visitors.

Taeyeon's "If," Yuri's "Gee" dance, the animated character Lava, EXO's Sehoon's, and the musical "School of Oz" all appeared through the holographic projectors. Although the holographic projections were not perfect, it could have easily been mistaken for a real person from an unknowing eye. The complete surround sound and light systems added an extra spark to the holograms projected. The musical "School of Oz" demonstrated CGI technology that even a real life musical could not follow.

President Lee Soo Man stated, "There was a lot of weight on our shoulders as leaders in providing cultural content to the public. The utilization of IT and CT (Cultural Technology) to produce musical holograms is something we are trying for the first time. Due to our desire to become leaders in our field, we will constantly upgrade our image with the utilization of state of the art cultural content. Although there may be some mistakes in the future, we would appreciate the public's support in the pursuit of our goals."

SMTOWN@coexartium boasts the title of being a 6 story complex equipped with the celebrity merchandise shop "SUM," artist appropriate studios, a multimedia café, and a multi-format theatre. Simply put, the multicultural center offers an unconventional way of collecting and sharing celebrity information through the incorporation of state of the art technology and industry collaborations.

President of the Korea International Trade Association Han Duk Soo, Secretary of the Creation of Future Science Yoon Jung Rok, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sports Kim Hee Bum, First Deputy Mayor of Seoul Jung Hyo Sung, Gangnam Commissioner Kim Yeon Hee, Gyeonggi-do Governor Nam Kyung Pil, Korea Creative Content Development's Chairman Song Seong Gak, Hong Kong's Risen Group's Dr. Peter Lam, and 60 others were in attendance of the ceremony to support the grand opening.

Events that occurred during the opening were the floor tour, hologram concert, and the hologram musical "School of Oz." The SMTOWN@coexartium will open on the 14th for anticipating citizens.
