29th Golden Disk Awards Day 2: EXO Win Album Of The Year Grand Prize For 'Overdose,' CNBLUE Major Winners

EXO were the recipients of the Album of the Year Daesang or Grand Prize for their 2014 album “Overdose” on day two of the 29th Golden Disk Awards. EXO also received the Album Bonsang or Main Album Award. The second day of the award focused on physical album releases versus digital releases.

The ceremony and performances were held on January 15 in Beijing, featuring an outpouring of top Korean celebrities. EXO received the Album of the Year trophy from Hong Kong actor, director, and K-pop producer Jackie Chan.

EXO continues to be successful in the Chinese market, following the 2014 departure of EXO-M members Kris and Luhan. The group appeared triumphant and relieved during their acceptance speech for the award.

FNC Entertainment’s CNBLUE were major winners on the second day of the Golden Disk Awards. CNBLUE received the China Good Will Award, the CeCi Asia Icon Award, and Album Bonsang or the Main Album Award.

CNBLUE’s impact on the Chinese market can be seen through their large fan base in the region. Jung Yong Hwa’s selection of Singaporean Mandarin pop star JJ Lin for his upcoming solo release is a testimony to the relevance of CNBLUE to Chinese audiences.

Tiffany of Girls’ Generation was joined by Super Junior’s Leeteuk as hosts of the event.

The Golden Disk Awards are the highest honors for Korean recording, with the ceremony dubbed as Korea’s version of the Grammy’s.

Fellow SM Entertainment artists Red Velvet were awarded with the New Artist Award. Red Velvet debuted in August 2014 with “Happiness.”

A Pink were the recipients of the Best Female Performance Award while BESTie received the Next Generation Award. A Pink received an Album Bonsang award, in addition to their Best Female Performance nod.

SM Entertainment’s Girls’ Generation, TaeTiSeo, Super Junior, and Taemin of SHINee were also awarded the Album Bonsang. VIXX and BTS concluded the winners in the Album Bonsang category.
