EXID's 'Up & Down' Wins 'Music Bank' 6 Months After Its Release

Although "Up & Down" by South Korean girl group EXID was released back in August, the song has taken over the charts, after a fan-shot video of band member Hani performing the song went viral.

On Sunday, EXID performed "Up & Down" on the Korean television program "Music Bank." Competing against A Pink for the week's number one trophy, EXID managed to win the honor with a song that was released months ago.

During an interview with Yonhap News, the members of EXID discussed their recent success due to a fancam video of a live performance that went viral in November.

"Although there have been fancams that became hot topics, we've heard that there hasn't been a case where a song would rank highly because of a fancam [before]," said Junghwa according to the website allkpop.

"At first, our friends told us, 'Your video is a hot topic on social networking sites,' and our song entered into the top 100. It rose to 82nd place and we thought it would stop there. Yet as our song ranking continued to climb we were amazed, anxious, and scared. Afterwards we became conflicted; our concern was mixed with several emotions. We can't believe that this kind of thing happened to us."

When first released in August, "Up & Down" entered South Korea's Gaon Domestic Chart at number 94 before falling off the chart the following week. However, the track first re-entered the chart on Nov. 16 before becoming topping the chart for the week of Dec. 28.

Reportedly, EXID followed this accomplishment by winning their first number one trophy on the Jan. 8 episode of "M! Countdown."

"The atmosphere at the company got a lot better," said EXID's Junghwa on KBS 2TV's "Hello."

"The older employees at the agency send us texts while they are in meetings as late as three in the morning."
