New Girl Group G-Friend Draws Comparisons To Lovelyz And Girls' Generation

New K-pop group G-Friend has received comparisons to other girl groups with their debut single, and it appears to have intensified after their first live stage performance.

On Friday, G-Friend made their live debut on "Music Bank," performing their single "Glass Bead" off of their brand new EP. After seeing their live performance, the group continues to draw comparisons to Girls' Generation's first single, "Into the New World," in terms of choreography, fashion and overall style of the songs.

"'Into the New World' 2.0?" commented Steven Ling on YouTube.

But not all Girls' Generation fans (Sones) believe the comparison is a bad thing.

"I liked them," wrote Sone_forever9 on allkpop.

"Their similarities to Girls' Generation didn't actually annoy me. In fact, it touched me. It reminded of Girls' Generation's debut era, good old times."

In addition, G-Friend is also being compared to Lovelyz, a girl group that debuted last year with "Candy Jelly Love."

"They blow Lovelyz out of the water," wrote Vangomango on Friday.

"I really, really like Lovelyz and I'm going to hate myself for comparing them to Lovelyz, but [G-Friend] are a lot better, vocal and stage presence-wise" added Yan Yee on YouTube.

"Plus, they are pretty synchronized for a debut stage."

G-Friend consists of six members named Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB and Umji. The group released their EP "Season of Glass" on Thursday under Source Music record label. According to kpopblog, Source Music previously debuted the girl group GLAM two years ago as a joint venture with Big Hit Entertainment.
