MAMAMOO is a four-member girl group that debuted back in June of 2014 with their first standalone track “Mr. Ambiguous” and has since become a fan favorite. “Mr. Ambiguous” soon became so popular that it eventually became known as one of the hottest debuts of 2014.

Even after the release of “Mr. Ambiguous” MAMAMOO’s popularity continues to soar. But what exactly is it that helped MAMAMOO stand out from the slew of other girl groups that also debuted?

Rather than entering the K-pop scene with a powerful dance track or cute concept, MAMAMOO came in with a funny and catchy number that not only drew in the crowd but also showcased their unique vocals. MAMAMOO has a sound that is not only catchy but jazzy as well; almost as if jazz music meets modern day pop and soul music. One of the traits that stands out quite well in MAMAMOO’s music videos are the way they incorporate black and white themes. In nearly each video, there is always scenes that are black and white yet emphasis each member’s beauty.

MAMAMOO previously released the popular song, “Peppermint Chocolate” alongside power vocal K.Will which also saw success after its release. Aside from K.Will, MAMAMOO has an extensive collaboration list despite having debuted less than a year ago including Bumkey, Geeks, Wheesung, Loco and more!

MAMAMOO members Solar and Wheein are the main vocals with voices of honey. Aside from their raw singing talent, both Wheein and Solar are known for their cute yet shy and quirky natures. It is always more interesting to not only have a group with talent but have character as well.

Hwasa is another vocal of MAMAMOO; however, her voice is in a category of its own as it has a more of a soulful R&B tone laced into it. Hwasa is also the second rapper of the group and thoroughly proves that she is more than capable of handling both roles. Last year, Hwasa released a short solo track called “Pink Panty” featuring the other members in the music video. Hwasa later revealed that she wrote the song as an expression after experiencing tough criticism from her label.

Moonbyul is the main rapper of the rapper of the group and some were quite surprised when then found this out. Moonbyul has a young looking face and never-ending cuteness yet when rapping has a sharp change in demeanor and is as fierce as a lion!

To further showcase their individual singing and rapping abilities, MAMAMOO appeared on immensely popular music show, ‘Immortal Song’. The four ladies put on an incredible performance and once again blew the crowd away with their sheer talent.
