It Takes 1 Billion to Create an Idol Group all the way to Debut?

How much money does it take to create an idol group and make their debut?

For example, we will take a 5 member group in one agency. When taking into consideration all the costs for employees, vocal and dance training, housing, food, transportation, acting training and other necessities, it will be around 40 million Won, about $36,000 USD, a month. It will take around 6 months until their debut, which brings it to a total of 240 million Won, about $220,000 USD.

Next would be the recording process. The group would need to record, shoot jacket photos, producers, writers, design, stylists, CDs and more which will be around 30 million Won, about $27,000 USD. Then they would film their music video and work on viral marketing and promotions which will be around 200 million Won, about $183,000 USD.

After the 6 months, more money would be needed for them to release another single or mini album. This would mean more money for the outfits, choreography, transportation and etc. Around 1 billion Won, about $916,000 USD, would be needed for one idol group for 1 year.

Some may wonder why it takes so much money to create an idol group. There are ways to save money like indie bands that record and produce their own albums, but with these entertainment companies, it is different. To these companies, these groups are their 'products' and they do not find it a waste to spend money on perfecting them.

These idol groups are now being spread out around the world, bringing them international fame.

However, with so many idol groups coming out every year, it is hard for them to reach success. Out of the many that debut, only about 3-4 may make it to the top. The others will quietly disappear from the scene.
