Editor's Pick: Brave Brothers Revisits Seo Taiji-Style 1990s K-Pop On 1PUNCH's 'Turn Me Back' From 'The Anthem' [AUDIO]

At this point, if you're Brave Brothers, there is little left to do in the world of Korean pop, hip-hop and R&B that you haven't done already.

Started your own record label? Check.

Worked with the hottest acts in Korea from SISTAR to Jay Park? Check and check.

Topped the charts with songs you produced and composed? Sure, dozens of times.

That's why it's not completely surprising to see the prolific producer paying homage to the Korean hip-hop and R&B of his youth, more specifically, the rap duo Deux and the original K-pop boy band, Seo Taji and Boys, on his new project 1PUNCH.

Like Deux, 1PUNCH is a hip-hop duo, but these guys have the vocal skills to make them a thrilling new addition to the Hallyu landscape.

But despite the traces of the Seo Taji and Boys clearly in play on this recording, the dominant sound, particularly on "Turn Me Back," (to this reviewer's ears, anyway) is the classic 1980s American R&B sound personified by Bobby Brown's original group, New Edition.

But whatever Western 1980s R&B act or 1990s K-pop artist 1PUNCH sounds like to you, there is no denying these guys make a talented pair. The entirety of their debut album "The Anthem," released on Friday, is solidly composed and produced R&B, like we have come to expect from Brothers.

But with an excitement that is difficult to resist, "Turn Me Back" is the clear standout track.

Though 1PUNCH is reportedly a joint between Brothers's Brave Entertainment and hip-hop artist-turned-mogul Lee Yong Hak's company D-Business Entertainment. It is the former whose personal stamp is all over "The Anthem."

Yet, if you're 1PUNCH, it can't hurt to have to hip-hop heavyweights in your corner.

Not a bad start.
