‘Assassination Classroom' Episode 3 Delayed Due To ISIS Captured Japanese Hostages Deadline

Today has been an eventful day for the country of Japan as the deadline for the Government to meet monetary demands from the ISIS terrorist group passed. The demands were made after ISIS took two Japanese hostages, Haruna Yukawa and Kenji Goto.

In fact, earlier today some fans and news outlets were speculating that this event has ultimately led to the postponed third episode of popular anime series "Assassination Classroom."

But a report from Crunchyroll has confirmed that Fuji TV ultimately cancelled the airing of the episode because of its content being triggering given the current situation with the ISIS terrorists. It would appear that despite the humorous treatment of assassination, network officials did not want to appear insensitive to the events.

"The reason of the cancellation is a scene that a character is swinging a knife to kill a monster in the episode," said Fuji TV's PR representative (via Crunchyroll).

This is not the first time that sensitive subject matter in currently airing anime series. According to TV Tropes, series such as "Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu," "Code Geass R2," and "School Days" were all suspended at one point due to similarities with high profile current events.

Additionally, series like "Soul Eater," "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" and "Suite Pretty Cure," all experienced delays related to depicting disaster areas in close occurrence with earthquake and tsunami disasters.

Although TV networks are showing sensitivity to the situation with the Japanese hostages, Time Magazine reports that many Japanese citizens are criticizing the hostages for traveling to the countries in which they were abducted. Time Magazine reports that one tweet in particular was retweeted by over 1000 users in Japan:

"They needed to know the possible results before going to that region, especially now. They're responsible," reads the tweet.

"Assassination Classroom" is a manga series by Yusei Matsui that was recently adapted into an anime series that is simulcast to fans outside of Japan by Funimation. The series follows the story of Class 3E after it is charged to assassinate their teacher Koro-Sensei, who threatens to destroy the earth by the end of the year.
