Speaking of character designs, last year in an interview with Animage (via Miss Dream), director Munehisa Sakai talked about how the production staff came to the decision to hire Yukie Sako to reimagine the characters of the "Sailor Moon" universe:

"This time we're aiming for a girls' manga style, so from the very beginning we thought a woman's delicate styling would be best," explained Sakai.

"Then we heard about a woman named Yukie Sako who could draw really strong likenesses (laughs) and thought "It would be interesting if Ms. Sako would illustrate Sailor Moon!" That's how we had you come to the audition."

According to Anime News Network, Prince Demande will be voiced by Mamoru Miyano ("Death Note" and "Tokyo Ghoul") and Saphir will be voiced by Tsubasa Yonaga ("One Piece" and "Free!"). Rubeus will be voiced by Hiroki Takahashi ("The New Prince of Tennis") and Esmeraude will be voiced by Houko Kuwashima.

The main Japanese voice cast from previous episodes is set to continue in the upcoming Black Moon arc of "Sailor Moon Crystal."

Viz Media, the company that is currently licensing "Sailor Moon Crystal" for countries outside of Japan describes the series as follows:

"Based on Naoko Takeuchi's legendary manga series, 'Sailor Moon Crystal' retells the story of Sailor Moon as she searches for her fellow Sailor Guardians and the Legendary Silver Crystal to stop the dark forces of Queen Beryl."
