K-Pop Idols who Choose to be 'Different' from Current Trends

Starting from around the year 2000, the Korean music industry began to follow the trend of idol stars.

Titles such as 'the golden age of idols' and others began to appear and many idol song hit producers were also born.

There are many entertainment companies and idols in line to receive a new and catchy song from famous idol song producers such as Shinsadong Tiger, Kim Do Hoon and Brave Brothers. However, there are a few idols that stray away from this trend and strive to show their own colors.

It seems that these days, idols look for songs that merely become 'popular'. Rather than looking at the 'unique' factor, they turn towards songs that they know will be a hit among the public, losing their own personal style.

With so many idol groups following the same trend of song and performance, many companies are also trying to stand out from the crowd.

If we take a look at girl group f(x), they are already different just by looking at the members. This group is an international race group with both Korean and Chinese members.

From their debut stage, they have always shown their unique style of clothes and esoteric lyrics that gained much attention from the public. Many of their songs became a hit and became the leaders of electronic pop dance for girl groups.

After School's unit group Orange Caramel is another good example.

This group debuted in 2010 and has always shown off their cute and flirty image. They are known for their bouncy and addictive style songs and have gained many people's attention.

Also, Orange Caramel is known for their interesting and eye catching hairstyles and outfits. They have in a way become an icon for liveliness stage performance.

Group BTOB has gone with the concept of 'retro'. Many of their hit songs feature a 90s analogue style vibe.

They also feature different genres into their music such as new jack swing in their song, "Wow."

Instead of playing it safe and always choosing easy songs, it is important to bring new and fresh content to the fans as well. This is not good for only the fans, but also the singer as they are able to improve and grow as a singer as well.

These groups that know exactly what the public wants to see are the ones that will truly see the light.
