Sam Smith Wants To Stop People From Calling Him The 'Male Adele' - Talks About 'One Night Stands' In Rolling Stone Interview

Sam Smith was not one to shy about sharing his "painful past" to Rolling Stone Magazine.

From working as a bar-back (runner or bartender's assistant) in London he has now become a Grammy nominated singer.

In the interview, the "Stay With Me" hitmaker was straightforward in saying that he wants people to stop calling him the "male Adele." While, he admitted that he considers the "Skyfall" singer as his "Michael Jackson" he wanted people to treat his music differently from that of Adele.

"We're very different, and I feel like the constant comparisons might piss her off." He explained.

"It just annoys me that people can't digest two pop stars singing really personal songs who don't look like normal pop stars," he added.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old British hitmaker, who's open about his sexuality and gender preference, shared more personal details about his life.

He revealed that his childhood was only "80 percent" joyful as he shared some of his painful experiences growing up.

At one time Smith shared that together with dad while walking in their neighborhood, someone drove by and shouted, "faggot" at him.

"I was just embarrassed that my dad had to see that, because I could only imagine how you feel as a parent. You just want to kill them. I was always embarrassed for the people around me. It actually never deeply affected me, you know?"

But, that did not stop there, he was "punched" in the neck when he first arrived in London because he was walking around wearing makeup.

"It wasn't the easiest," he said.

And as he spends his young adult life in London he admitted that he had a lot of one-night stands just to deal with loneliness.

"I had a lot of one-night stands. I met a few dodgy friends, people I'm definitely not friends with now," he revealed.
