India Opens Up To K-Pop

India is attracting K-pop stars for the first time.

2014 saw many Korean celebrities travel abroad, the start of 2015 has brought attention to K-pop fans in India. The Asian subcontinent recently hosted its first K-pop concert, which was shortly followed by the news that a variety show starring many popular K-pop idols. With the second largest population in the world, India is an extremely lucrative market for Hallyu.

Hallyu, the Korean Wave of soft-culture, has already spread to Europe, the Americas, and much of Asia, and as its popularity spreads, more and more countries are being visited by Korean celebrities. With over 1.2 billion people, India comes second in the world only to China, and the Korea Cultural Center in India sees a lot of interest in K-pop.

N-Sonic brought India its first K-pop performance in 2014, but brought the first K-pop concert tour to India in January. The idol group performed in Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Guwahatai, reported KpopStarz India. The members also held a fan meet and fan sign in New Delhi on Jan. 31.

N-Sonic had previously performed in India when they visited India to act as judges of a K-pop audition competition.

Along with K-pop concerts beginning to head to India, a new variety show tentatively known as "Fluttering India" will star some of K-pop's most popular young stars. Members of TVXQ, Super Junior, CNBLUE, INFINITE, SHINee, and EXO will be heading to India to appear in the new KBS show.

Super Junior's Kyuhyun, TVXQ's Changmin, SHINee's Minho, CNBLUE's Jonghyun, INFINITE's Sungkyu, and EXO's Suho will be heading to India in February, where they will interact with locals and learn about the culture. Several of these idols are a group of celebrity, often known as the "Kyu-Line."

The KBS show is set to be broadcast in March or April.
