Amy Pascal Resignation: Sony Pictures Chairman Ends Her Term After Devastating Cyber Attacks As She Confirms A New Production Venture In The Studio Soon!

Amy Pascal, widely regarded as one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, said on Thursday, Feb. 5 that she would resign her post as co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and head of the film studio, her move comes months after airing of her private emails in the devastating Sony hack.

Three months after a massive hacking incident revealing embarrassing emails, Amy Pascal has decided to stepped down as Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman and head of the studio that produced the controversial comedy, "The Interview."

Back in December, Pascal was forced to apologize for leaked emails including one which saw her swap racially crass jokes about President Barack Obama.

According to reports from CBC, Pascal came under fire for her racist remarks about President Obama's presumed choice in movies such as "Django Unchained" and "The Butler," which deals with slavery in the United States.

Pascal responded to the media outlets calling her leaked emails "racist" by saying, "the content of my emails were insensitive and inappropriate but are not an accurate reflection of who I am," she added, I made a series of remarks that were meant only to be funny, but in the cold light of day, they are in fact thoughtless and insensitive - and not funny at all."

At the time, Donald Trump suggested to her that she should resign "for stupidity reasons."

Pascal has faced criticism again for green-lighting "The Interview," which caused the hacks in the first place as SkyNews, adds that Sony made a statement on that Pascal would launch a 'major new production venture' at the studio.

Pascal said in statement,

"I have spent almost my entire professional life at Sony Pictures and I am energised to be starting this new chapter based at the company I call home," she added, "I have always wanted to be a producer. (Sony CEO) Michael (Lynton) and I have been talking about this transition for quite some time, and I am grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to pursue my long-held dream and for providing unparalleled support."

The studio further revealed that Pascal will resign fro, Sony in May as NYTimes.com cited that the studio accepted a four-year production deal that will involve Pascal making some of Sony's biggest planned films.

Sony said, the details of Pascal's new venture were due to be announced "shortly." The venture, however, will be Pascal's own company, supported by Sony and based at its California headquarters, and will "focus on movies, television and theatre."
