N.W.A. Biopic Trailer Released; Ice Cube Calls New N.W.A Biopic A ‘Reflection Of Our Reality’; Kendrick Lamar Says N.W.A. `Wasn’t Even Music, It Was A Real Lifestyle’; Watch NWA Biopic Trailer [VIDEO]

The new trailer for the N.W.A. biopic was released and it shows that the influential rap band were more than just hip hop pioneers. According to Ice Cube and Kendrick Lamar, N.W.A. was a way of life. The N.W.A biopic, "Straight Outta Compton," was produced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre.

In the introduction to the trailer of the upcoming N.W.A biopic, "Straight Outta Compton," we see Dr. Dre, played by Corey Hawkins, Eazy-E, portrayed by Jason Mitchell, and Ice Cube played by his son O'Shea Jackson, Jr., MC Ren, played by Aldis Hodge, and DJ Yella played by Neil Brown, Jr., rise from the streets of Compton, Calif., to legend. The movie also stars Paul Giamatti as Jerry Heller, N.W.A's manager and co-founder of Ruthless Records.

"When I think of N.W.A, it wasn't even music to me, it was a real lifestyle. Brothas from my neighborhood that made it out," Kendrick Lamar says in the trailer.

"Our art is a reflection of our reality," Ice Cube is shown explaining during a press conference after N.W.A. was criticized for its profane and violent lyrics.

The official synopsis reads:

"In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country.  When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.  Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war."

The N.W.A biopic trailer shows the uproar caused by the band's cult hit "Fuck tha Police." The song came out before the 1992 Los Angeles riots and united local gangs Bloods and Crips in their fight against against law enforcement.

"They try to tell us what the fuck we can't play," the trailer shows Ice Cube telling a sold out arena show after the band was banned from performing "Fuck Tha Police" in concert.

"Straight Outta Compton" was directed by F. Gary Gray (Be Cool). The film is due out on August 14th.
