Nokia 'Here' Maps Update Reveal New Features Like Interactive 3D Maps And Route Planner As The Mapping App Can Surpass Google Maps For The Android Software!

Looks like new updates for Nokia's map application "Here" maps have been revealed!

Nokia has added new features for Here maps which includes 3D maps and a route planner to mobile devices that run on the Google Android software.

According to reports from BetaNews, the major update expands list of regions where turn-by-turn navigation is available. The update also enhances map quality in a number of regions besides increasing the accuracy of public transit information in more cities "so you can compare options at a glance."

The latest update to "Here" will feature interactive 3D maps of shopping centers and airports in 70 countries. GMANetwork further revealed that users can now tap on any place icon on the map to find out more about the area, and learn about nearby traffic incidents. Not only that, the app also lets users download maps in the background, and voices to the SD card.

BetaNews further adds that there are more water features shown on the map, with a more accurate representation of rivers also in the mix. According to GooglePlay, "Here" can now be used on devices with 64-bit processors.

Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Liberia, Madagascar, Sierra Leone and Somalia are singled out for map quality enhancements, however, Nokia does not say what the area of focus are in regards to navigation. On the other hand, Cyprus, Mayotte and Zimbabwe now offer maps with "navigable status", implying that turn-by-turn navigation is now available. This feature is last known to be available in 118 countries. According to BetaNews, it would now increase to 120.

PCWorld noted, "Nokia's Here map has slowly grown to be the best alternative to Google Maps on Android. Originally it was just for Samsung devices, but since then has expanded to availability for anyone running Android 4.1 or above."

PCWorld adds that Nokia's offline maps feature is "particularly strong in Europe."
