U-verse With AT&T GigaPower To Launch In Kansas City As The Telecom Offers Two Price Ranges Based On Its Internet Preferences Program!

Looks like accessing the internet at a blazing speed is now a reality for everyone as U-verse with AT&T* GigaPower will launch in Kansas City.

Google had targeted Kansas City area in its initial fiber release more than two and a half year ago and now, AT&T announced the launch of its fiber internet service on Monday, Feb. 16.

According to reports from TechSpot, although At&T's service checks in at the same $70 per month rate as Google Fiber, the price point is only honored if you agree to let them track your browsing history. With the launch of U-verse and GigaPower for customers in Kansas City, AT&T is making good on last year's promise to bring high-speed gigabit Internet to 21 cities.

The service will also be available to Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, and Overland Park, as well as surrounding areas such as Independence, Missouri, and Shawnee. AT&T guarantees the download speeds of 1 gigabit per second to broadband customers in these areas, a speed that is almost 100 times faster than most connections available in the U.S.

According to reports from PRNesWire, consumers in eligible areas can choose from single, double and triple play offers to ensure they have the right combination of services to fit their needs.

  • U-verse High Speed Internet 1Gbps: Internet speeds up to 1Gbps for $70 per month****, includes waiver of equipment, installation and activation fees, and a three year price guarantee.
  • U-verse High Speed Internet 1Gbps + TV: Customers who also select U-verse TV will receive free HBO, HBO GO and HD service for 36 months starting at $120 per month with qualifying TV services.
  • U-verse High Speed Internet 1Gbps + TV + Voice: Customers will receive all of the benefits of Internet speeds up to 1Gbps and TV package, plus AT&T U-verse Unlimited Voice starting at $150 per month.

President of AT&T Kansas Mike Scott said, "We're proud to launch in these cities as the first locations where we will offer ultra-high speeds to local consumers and employers in the Kansas City area," he added, "the AT&T GigaPower network will help encourage economic development in the area by facilitating a new wave of innovation through enhanced opportunities for education, health, research and small business growth."

"We've moved quickly to bring more competition to the Kansas City area for blazing-fast Internet speeds and best-in-class television service," said John Sondag, president of AT&T Missouri. "But this is just our initial launch. We look forward to continuing to expand our AT&T GigaPower network in the Kansas City area where there are strong investment cases and receptive customers."

A triple-pay package with voice will cost customers $150 per month.

Based on whether or not users agree to participate in its Internet Preference Program, AT&T is offering two different prices. Under this program, AT&T has the right to collect information about the websites you visit, the time you spend on each site, the links or ads you see and follow and search terms you enter. This information will be later used to tailor ads and offers to your interest.

TechSpot adds that if you do want not to participate in the program, it will cost you. ArsTechnica points out, Kansas City residents that don't want to be tracked will be charged an extra $29 per month, bringing the total cost up to $99 per month just for the internet-only package.

AT&T identifies its Internet Preferences tracking program as a "premier" offering while the connection without tracking is called a "standard" offer. Although Google too collects information from its Fiber subscribers, the data appears to only be used for network management, security or maintenance.
