Sam Smith won four Grammy Awards this month but what really caught people's attention was his acceptance speech for the record of the year award, when he threw some shade at an ex boyfriend. Now Sam Smith is revealing the mistake he made on Instagram with his ex and how he'll avoid it next time - have you made it too?

According to the Daily Mail, 22-year-old Sam Smith told ES Magazine it was a mistake to share his love life with the public via his Instagram account, and he'll be sure now to repeat his mistake again.

"I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was," he said. "I've learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved."

"I would say it was a relationship, but I still feel like I haven't had a proper boyfriend yet," he added.

Sam Smith dated his ex boyfriend Jonathan Zeizal for about two months before breaking up last month.

But it sounds like it was a different ex that the Grammy-Award-winner referenced during his acceptance speech.

"I want to thank the man this record is about... for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys," Sam Smith said in his speech.

The crooner won the Grammy Award for record of the year, for his song "Stay With Me."

Broken hearts aren't fun, but it looks like Sam is doing a good job of taking his life experiences and making the best of them!

Maybe Sam's words will make you think twice before you post the intimate details of your love life on Instagram. Or, maybe not.
