"Pitch Perfect 2" star Skylar Astin is branching out from the Treblemakers by starring in his own comedy series and also playing doting boyfriend to Anna Camp.

In an article from Variety, Skylar Astin will headline the untitled comedy series from ABC.

"The buddy comedy set in the world of professional basketball follows a non-English speaking rookie and a non-basketball speaking translator (Astin)," it said.

The "Pitch Perfect 2" star will play Jason, "a sweet yet wimpy teaching assistant living in his parents' basement who's tapped by an NBA manager to become a translator for a talented but lazy recruit from Botswana."

"Jason soon realizes he got a lot more than he signed up for when he's thrown into the company of pro basketball giants," the article noted.

The new comedy pilot will replace Skylar Astin's "Ground Floor," which was grounded by TBS after just two seasons.

"TBS has decided not to renew the multicam workplace comedy for a third season. The official cancellation comes just two weeks after the Turner cabler had agreed to let the cast, including lead Skylar Astin, look for second position jobs," Variety reported last week.

"Ground Floor" is a "comedy about a young successful banker who falls for a woman who works in his building's maintenance department." Skylar Astin stars as Brody while his romantic partner, Jennifer, is played by Briga Heelan, said the synopsis from Internet Movie Database website.

While production still has to start for the new comedy series, Skylar Astin is playing doting boyfriend to Anna Camp, who's also his co-star in "Pitch Perfect 2," during "Verite," her off-Broadway show on Feb. 18.

"Verite" is the story of Anna Camp's Jo, described as "a stay-at-home mom and struggling writer who tries to make her life exciting enough to publish a memoir," reported Broadway.
