Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett 'Cheek To Cheek' Album Praised By John Mayer; 'XO' Singer Compares Jazz Collaboration With Pop Star's Previous Works

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's "Cheek to Cheek" album was praised by fellow musician John Mayer. According to a report from E!Online, the "XO" singer compared their collaboration with the pop star's previous works.

Appearing to be a "little monster" himself, which is what Lady Gaga fondly calls her loyal fans, John Mayer took to Twitter to commend the 28-year-old hitmaker. He zeroed in on her and Tony Bennett's "Cheek to Cheek" release, which recently bagged the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

John Mayer pointed out Lady Gaga stood by her somewhat unlikely jazz collaboration instead of churning out her usual mass-driven pop record.

"I know this is going to sound like I'm trying to stir up media, but I have huge respect for Lady Gaga and I wanna tell you why," John Mayer started in his series of tweets last Feb. 20.

"She released a record that didn't get the love she was probably hoping for, which happens to REAL artists. And she stood by it. There is no desperate attempt to be as  successful as before by any means necessary, no Artpop 2.0 with cynically produced hits."

"I respect artists who release music they believe in and with a slow steady pulse while doing it, live or die. So yah. fin. Carry on Gaga. I can dig it. Everyone else should, too," John Mayer tweeted.

The "Born this Way" singer responded to John Mayer's kind words by sending out a tweet.

"Just got out of a great rehearsal! That was really cool @JohnMayer So thoughtful. The respect is mutual," Lady Gaga said.

Released last September 2014, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's "Cheek to Cheek" collaboration sold 131,000 copies in its first week. According to the report from E!Online,  it was the international recording artist's third consecutive No. 1 record in the United States.

Lady Gaga's release prior to her jazz project, which was a generic pop album named "Artpop", was more successful with 258,000 copies sold on its first week.
