"Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1" producer Dana Perry chose an interesting outfit for her Oscars 2015 shining moment. The filmmaker took home an Oscar Award for best short subject documentary, but all we were looking at were the fuzzy black balls dangling off her shoulders. Even host Neil Patrick Harris couldn't help cracking a joke - though few took it lightly, considering the circumstances.

Dana Perry chose an elegant black gown for Sunday's Oscars 2015, but her wrap was certainly the star of the show - the netted piece featured large, fuzzy black balls. Check out the photos above to get a sense of how strange this outfit choice was.

Host of the night Neil Patrick Harris couldn't help but poke fun of Dana Perry once she and director Ellen Goosenberg Kent accepted the Oscar Award.

"It takes a lot of balls to wear a dress like that," Harris said.

But Twitter wasn't happy. And this is because Dana had a somber message in her acceptance speech for the film "Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1": her 15-year-old son died from suicide, and she urged the nation to open up and talk about such tragedies.

The film focuses on the Veterans Crisis Line in Canandaigua, N.Y. and the alarming rate of suicides among military veterans. Fortunately, Perry laughed out loud when she heard the joke for the first time while talking to reporters. "That's adorable," Perry said. "I invite anyone to feel my furry balls." Perry explained the origins of her interesting attire: "I went shopping in my mother-in-law's attic. ...She had great style in the 60s and 70s." "This is one of her excellent signature pieces. And I just love to wear it because I can make ridiculous dirty jokes about it," she said. "I just got the gown to sort of support the balls," she joked. We couldn't help but think of the sootballs (or Susuwatari) from Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" while looking at her outfit. Check out the resemblance below:
