In a press conference at the Pullman Hotel in Putrajaya, the organizers and committee for the Golden Disc Awards have officially announced Malaysia as the host for the prestigious awards event.  To be held in a span of two days on January 15 and 16, it will bring the best of the best in Korean entertainment.  This will be the first time something of this scale will be staged in Malaysia.

Dubbed as the Korean Grammy awards, the Golden Disc Awards is notable due to being the only award that depends heavily on album sales/downloads. Those eligible will be albums and songs released during the period of December 2011 through December 2012.  

Representative from the sponsors, Samsung Electronics,  Mr Kwon Jae Hoon stated that Malaysia was chosen as they realized that there is a market and demand for Korean entertainment in the country due to the sold out concerts for Big Bang. They also wanted to use this event to socialize and promote Samsung products as a way to connect friends through music. 

The awards show will be held at Kuala Lumpur's Sepang International Circuit, which was chosen as there is an expectation of a big crowd turnout for the event.  They have been looking at the venue for quite some time and finally decided it to be the best spot to hold the grand-scale show.

During the press conference, the preliminary nominee list was also revealed on which Korean bands and artists such as: 2AM,  Lee Hi, Epik High, Girl's Generation and many others were included. The organizers did reveal that the nominee list could still change depending on the performance of album sales through the end of year.  The final nominee list will be revealed in January.   Additionally, artists who will be in attendance for performances and reception of awards is still in the middle of being chosen.
