2NE1, Big Bang Represent K-Pop Among 2015 YouTube Music Award Winners

K-pop made a splash on YouTube in 2015, with YG Entertainment artists gaining the top spots in YouTube's 2015 Music Awards.

2NE1 and members of Big Bang, two of YG Entertainment's top idol groups, were included among top international music stars like Beyonce, Ed Sheeran Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Sia, Drake, and Miley Cyrus for having some of the highest viewed music videos on YouTube in 2015. Along with winning awards, the two groups were highlighted as some top music stars to look forward to.

"With more than 47 billion views, with more than 164 million subscribers, and 1,600 videos uploaded in just 6 months, these are the winners of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards," read the video before listing the honorees in alphabetical order.

2NE1 was the first winner listed, while Big Bang's name was listed immediately following Beyoncé.

The video then showed clips from some of the best music videos released in 2014. YouTube particularly highlighted the K-pop honorees, featuring clips from Big Bang members G-Dragon and Taeyang's duet "Good Boy" and 2NE1's "Come Back Home."

Along with a video revealing the winners, YouTube is working with musicians to create original music videos from singers like Ed Sheeran and Charli XCX that will debut on March 23.

However, neither Big Bang nor 2NE1 are releasing music with YouTube for the March 23 release date.

The honorees were choosen based on views, subscribers, and user engagement on the YouTube channels and videos of the selected artists.

2NE1's CL is amidst preparations for her debut into the American music market as a solo artist, while Big Bang is preparing an album release for April. This will be the group's first Korean album since the 2012 repackaged album, "Still Alive."

YouTube created a playlist of all of the winning songs.
