ZEST Halt Group Activities Indefinitely After Alleged Rape Accusation

A rookie idol group member has been accused of raping a woman.

A member of idol group Zest was sued for allegedly raping a woman in her 20's. Zest's entertainment agency, Zenith Media Contents, has denied the claims and confirmed that the woman is also an idol member who is five years older than the Zest member. Zenith Media Contents has not clarified which member of Zest has been accused of the accusations.

Zest's planned April comeback promotions have been postponed, as has the planned Japanese debut for the group.

According to the KPop Herald, Zenith Media Contents has called the woman's accusations "groundless," and based on "false information."

Zenith also clarified that woman was a member of a now-disbanded idol group that is no longer promoting.

"We have a recording of her remarks stating she pressured our company only because the accused is an idol member," a Zenith Media official said. The company has said that it will release the recordings, unless the woman ceases her lawsuit.

Prior to the woman's lawsuit, the Zest member's parents had already filed a formal complaint against the woman's defamation of their son.

According to the lawsuit, the two idols were introduced to each other in November 2014, and the male idol raped the woman. She claimed that he attempted to rape her again six days later, when he went to her house under the pretense of apologizing.

"The member of Zest never raped her. She made up the story and posted it online to blackmail him," said a Zenith Media representative. "If it was really a rape, she would have sued him when it happened. We believe that she is up to something for abruptly taking legal action."

Zest debuted in 2014 with the remake of the 1980's song "Last Night Story."
