Former EXO Member Luhan Rumored To Appear Alongside Matt Damon, Andy Lau In Hollywood Film

A large-scale Hollywood film will allegedly include a former member of SM Entertainment group EXO.

The Great Wall, an English language film directed by Zhang Yimou, previously confirmed Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe in starring roles, and Chinese media announced additional actors, including Andy Lau and former EXO member Luhan.

This will be the former K-pop star's first Hollywood role, although he has taken on several acting roles in China since leaving EXO in 2014.

China Daily reported the news on March 11, announcing several of the Chinese members who will join the cast of The Great Wall. Along with Andy Lao and Luhan, Zhang Hanyu, Lin Genxin, Jing Tian, boy band TFBOYS, and several other cast members were announced.

Along with The Great Wall, Luhan has appeared in the Chinese films 20 Once Again and 12 Golden Ducks. He won numerous Chinese popularity awards in 2014 and 2015, including the 2015 Weibo Male God of the Year award.

Zhang is known for directing films including Hero, The Flowers of War,  and House of Flying Daggers. He also had a role in the opening for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony.

The Great Wall will be Zhang's first English-language film. Despite this, not all of the Chinese cast members, including Luhan, speak English fluently.

Luhan is the second former SM Entertainment Chinese entertainer who has entered Hollywood. Former Super Junior member Han Geng appeared in the latest Transformers film.

The Hollywood Reporter called the film, "the largest film ever shot entirely in China for global distribution."

Despite the news, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) only listed Damon and Dafoe as confirmed cast members as of March 11 EST. However, it was updated by March 12.

The movie will be about a mystery surrounding the Great Wall of China's construction, and include sci-fi elements and a plot twist.

The filming was supposed to begin in February, but there has been setbacks leading to filming getting postponed.

The Great Wall will be released in 2016.
