Kerry Washington Remains Private About Husband And Baby Isabelle; 'Scandal' Star Learned To Be Smart Because She Thinks She's Not Pretty

Kerry Washington seemed to have learned her lesson as she is now very private about her husband and baby Isabelle. Meanwhile, the "Scandal" star revealed that she needed to learn how to be smart since she never thought she was pretty.

The actress, who rose to stardom for starring in the ABC drama series, explained in a report by ABC News about her decision to keep her family away from public eye.

"Earlier in my career I was much more super-sharey. There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn't have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they're in and you don't get to say, 'Oh, I want this for myself," the 38-year-old American actress told "Girls" creator Lena Dunham in a profile for Marie Claire magazine.

This may have pushed the "Scandal" actress to marry her husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, in an intimate ceremony in Blaine County, Idaho two years ago. In fact, Kerry Washingto also never officially announced her pregnancy and the birth of baby Isabelle Amarachi last April.

News about Isabelle's birth only broke out when TMZ got hold of her birth certificate two weeks after she was born.

Speaking about her baby, Kerry Washington shared she wants her daughter to know she is heard.

"I just want [Isabelle] to know that she's heard. Really heard, because I feel like that is what we all really want."

"When I think about any of the missteps in my life that I've made, all of which I'm grateful for, it's because I just so wanted to be truly seen and heard for who I am and was afraid I wasn't or wouldn't be," the "Scandal" star explained. "I see you, I hear you, I'm with you as you are."

Meanwhile, MSN,quoting a report for an upcoming Marie Claire magazine cover story, revealed that while she is recognized as a style icon these days, Kerry Washington never always felt that she was pretty.

"I didn't grow up thinking I was pretty; there was always a prettier girl than me," the actress claimed.

With this, she learned to be good at something that will somehow conceal this belief.

"So I learned to be smart and tried to be funny and develop the inside of me, because I felt like that's what I had," Kerry Washington shared.
