While Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are allegedly not in good terms because of the actor's relationship with Nikki Reed, the "Vampire Diaries" beauty hinted about enjoying work.

As reported by Wetpaint, she told E! Online why she's having fun at work.

"Things are going really well with her [Elena] and Damon. Everyone else around her is sort of falling apart, but she's for the first time keeping it together," Nina Dobrev said.

"It's fun for me to play her light like that because everything is so heavy on our show."

Despite news of cancellation, it has been confirmed that there would be a "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. Nina Dobrev said that she "definitely didn't anticipate" that the CW series would be big.

"I just wanted to get a job...I just wanted to be employed," she told E! Online.

Apart from giving life to half of Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's on-screen tandem, the brunette beauty will also join the horror-comedy flick "The Final Girls."

Meanwhile, the former "Lost" actor is still gaining praises for his directorial debut in the "Vampire Diaries" episode entitled "The Downward Spiral."

However, fans were disappointed that they didn't see much of Damon and Elena's romance.

This led to speculations that Ian Somerhalder is doing his best to limit his screen time with Nina Dobrev in "The Vampire Diaries."

They dated for three years  and parted ways in 2013. Rumors have been surfacing that they started to become uncomfortable on set especially when Ian Somerhalder got together with "Twilight" star Nikki Reed.

In another interview with TV Guide, Ian Somerhalder even hinted that Damon and Elena might not end up together.

"I don't think that's absolutely going to happen, but I think they're trying," he said.

"The situation is very intense and it's hard. But you definitely see [him putting in effort] and you don't always see that side of him. So, that's cool," he added.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs every Thursday night on CW.
