SM Entertainment Begins Plans For Red Velvet's Fanclub While Fans Wonder About f(x)

Fans of two SM Entertainment girl groups are expressing completely opposing reactions to the news of Red Velvet searching for fan supporters to help run their fandom activities.

SM Entertainment, one of South Korea's top entertainment agencies, posted information about Red Velvet's fan recruitment on the girl group's official website. However, shortly after the announcement, fans of f(x) protested SM's alleged decision to give Red Velvet a fanclub prior to f(x), despite the latter group debuting five years prior to Red Velvet.

On March 17, SM Entertainment's representatives published a notice to Red Velvet fans entitled "Red Velvet Official Fanclub - Supporters Recruitment Guide." SM Entertainment is recruiting formal members of a team to support the group and lead Red Velvet fans. The position can be achieved through an application and interviews, with applications open through March 29.

f(x) and Red Velvet fans alike took to social media to protest the organized fan association for Red Velvet, due to the fact that f(x) debuted in 2009 and has yet to gain an official fanclub.

It is as of yet unknown whether the recruiters will be chosen and then SM Entertainment will announce a fanclub name, or if the girl group will go the way of f(x) and not receive a name.

Fans of f(x) took to YouTube to express their frustration towards SM Entertainment, although many also showed support for Red Velvet.

"Give ' em both a fandom name!"said YouTube user Rafael Baldini said. "I support Red Velvet since their debut, but I think it is not fair with f(x) fans that Red Velvet gets a fandom name and f(x), after more than 5 years, keep going without an official fandom name."

Red Velvet recently made a comeback with the dual title tracks, "Ice Cream Cake" and "Automatic." The two music videos achieved over 4 million combined views in under a week, and "Ice Cream Cake" achieved top spots in Korean music charts.
